On the 23rd October W Bro Phil Griffths a past master of Shenstonian Lodge No 5544 was exalted in an exquisite manner into Ex Cathedra RA Chapter No 9229 (that meets at Knowle). It was the chapter’s first exaltation in six years, although the chapter had welcomed numerous joining members over that same period. Â
The First Principal of the chapter, E Comp David Richards, set a fine example of how to deliver Warwickshire Royal Arch Ritual, and none present could believe that it was the first time he had ever exalted a candidate in that role. An example well backed up by the Principal Sojourner, E Comp Roger Moore, who had not exalted anyone in that capacity for a number of years. Sadly, some members of the chapter were not able to attend/carry out their usual offices for reasons relating to health and recent passing of loved ones. Fortunately, in the true spirit of companionship there were a number of visitors from other chapters who kindly attended at very short notice to cover the missing offices. Â Â
The members of Ex Cathedra chapter could not have been more welcoming and grateful to those visitors.
Comp Phil Griffiths having been raised to a Master Mason in February 2005 clearly had waited until his personal circumstances were correct before he took the fourth regular step in ancient freemasonry, but let it be an example to us all that you are never too old (or too young) to be exalted into Royal Arch Masonry. Â Â The smiling faces of all those in the photograph give yet more evidence, if it was necessary, as to what a memorable and enjoyable meeting was had by all. Surely, it will not be another six years before C9229 holds its next exaltation ceremony? Â

On Thursday 26th September, a group of brethren from the Lodge of St. Andrew No. 4056 visited Ian Whyte at his home to celebrate his remarkable 60 years of service in Freemasonry.
Due to health reasons, Ian was unable to attend the Lodge, so his certificate was presented to him personally by David Paterson, the senior past master of the Lodge. Together, the two brothers represent an impressive 128 years of dedication to Freemasonry. In keeping with Ian’s wishes, the presentation was conducted quietly, without fanfare.
Ian Whyte began his Masonic journey in 1965, being initiated into Anderson McMillan Lodge No. 1552 in Glasgow under the Scottish constitution. After moving to England in 1988, he continued his Masonic involvement with several English lodges.
Beyond Freemasonry, Ian enjoyed a successful business career, managing two international cargo freight companies in Scotland and England. A passionate supporter of Glasgow Rangers FC, he was well known for personally financing a junior Rangers team, earning recognition from many first-team players.
Ian, together with his late wife Hazel and other family members, organised numerous charity events benefiting the Macmillan charity. These events were so popular that one was even opened by a cabinet minister.
In May 2017, Ian received Provincial rank in Worcestershire of Past provincial Junior Grand Deacon. He served as Worshipful Master of the Lodge of St. Andrew in Warwickshire in 2010 and was promoted Past Provincial Grand Registrar in 2017.
Ian’s full Masonic involvement includes membership in:
Stechford Mark Lodge No. 747, Worcestershire
Stechford Royal Ark Mariners No. 747
Peace and Harmony Mark Lodge No. 1066, Warwickshire
Charity Royal Ark Mariners Lodge, Warwickshire
Ian Whyte’s dedication, both to Freemasonry and to charitable causes, stands as a shining example of service, commitment, and community spirit.
